Warm Spiced Milk

I find that the depths of winter send me searching for the comforting warmth of a spiced milk drink. These days, I don’t reach for caffeine as a pick me up, but have started building a collection of warm latte-like drinks that give me the warm fuzzies without the caffeine jitters. I often find myself making this warm spiced milk for the children (and myself) when they’ve risen before the sun and I can’t quite bring myself to face the day by making a full breakfast quite yet. It’s amazingly filling and chock’o block full of nutrients. Also, it can be cradled in your hands while sitting on the couch (or porch) watching the sun rise through the windows. It’s just as good as an afternoon pick me up or bedtime snack...you may find yourself making them all the day long. Here’s to warm comfort in a mug!

Ingredients:

makes one mug-full:

1 cup whole milk (you can use 1/2 cup coconut milk and 1/2 cup water as well)

1 tablespoon maple syrup

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

teensy splash of vanilla extract

optional nutrient boosters:

1 scoop of collagen (we use perfect supplements, you can get 10% off with code JMW10)

a teaspoon of grass-fed colostrum

Directions:

In a small pot (or milk frother if you have one), add the milk. Set the heat to medium low and bring the milk to desired temperature, I don’t make mine super hot because we use raw milk which has live enzymes I’d like to preserve. Use a whisk or electric whisk to mix in the other ingredients. You should get a nice frothy top which is just so good! Pour into some mugs and add a dash of cinnamon to the top. Enjoy that sweet creamy goodness!
