Strawberry Milkshake

I’ll never forget being pregnant with my first and visiting the midwife who “prescribed” a milkshake a day for the rest of my pregnancy. Apparently, the baby wasn’t measuring as big as expected so she wanted me to get more calories in every day. At first, I had visions of daily milkshakes with whipped cream, but soon bumped into the reality of how few nutrients would be in those daily Chik-fil-A milkshakes. I had a blender, I had time, and a glut of strawberries from the market and decided to concoct my own strawberry milkshake that would fill me up with all the nutrients needed to support my pregnancy. Vitamin C from the strawberries, protein and fat soluble vitamins from the full cream milk, protein and probiotics from the yogurt, glycine from the collagen, b vitamins from the sprinkle of bee pollen. Most of all, they were incredibly delicious and satisfying as an afternoon snack without needing a nap afterwards. Turns out that baby was growing just fine in there, he was just tucked up under my ribs nice and cozy. That boy still loves a milkshake to this day, though!

Ingredients:

1 cup strawberries (frozen is just fine!)

½ cup milk (you could sub with a bit of heavy cream if you need a higher calorie treat)

½ cup greek yogurt

1 scoop collagen powder (totally optional!)

2 tablespoons maple syrup

a splash of vanilla extract

1 teaspoon bee pollen (optional!)

Directions:

Put all of the ingredients in a high speed blender and blend until smooth. Pop a straw in and enjoy!
